Choosing & Buying an eSIM

What is an eSIM?

eSIM is a chip that is pre-installed (embedded) within your device hardware by the manufacturer. It is a fully-digital SIM card that can be programmed remotely and connect to a mobile network without the need for a physical SIM card. This makes it super-convenient to use. All you have to do is scan a QR code. No shipping cost & delays!”

How do I check if my phone is compatible?

As a general rule, iPhone 11 and beyond, and Android models from 2021 and beyond are eSIM compatible. You can browse through this list of eSIM Compatible Devices to know more.

When you purchase a TwixAir eSIM, we also check your phone compatibility for you through your device IMEI number.

Most eSIMs online are Data-only! Can an eSIM also give Voice + Data connectivity?

A TwixAir eSIM definitely can! We’ve got Voice + Data plans and Only Data plans for eSIMs. You can see all available options on our shop. Pick one that suits your travel plans.

Is an eSIM with Voice + Data plans better for international traveling?

We certainly feel so! When you take a Voice + Data plan, you receive a local contact number along with it – very much like the contact number you have through physical SIM cards. Which means you can make and receive calls, send and receive texts on this number, without internet (data or wifi). You can share this number with anyone you like – at home, at work, or with the new friends you’ll make while traveling. These numbers are great for making and managing reservations when traveling internationally. Hotels, Restaurants, Airlines, Tour Operators ask for a contact number, where they can reach you by calling and text messaging. All this becomes possible with a Voice + Data eSIM.

Will I get a phone number with the eSIM, like the one I have with my regular physical SIM card?

If you choose a Voice + Data plan, you will get a local phone number. With Data only eSIMs, no phone number is provided.

Can a single eSIM work in multiple countries?

Yes. Our multi-country eSIMs give you access to destinations across Europe, Americas, Asia, & Australia. Browse through all offerings here.

How many eSIMs can I have on my phone?

eSIM compatible devices allow you to install multiple eSIMs, but depending on the device model the number of eSIMs you can have active at a time may vary. For more information, get in touch with your device manufacturer or our customer support team here.

How long does it take for the eSIM QR code to arrive?

Managing Your TwixAir eSIM

How to activate TwixAir eSIM on my phone?

To activate on iPhone –

  • Go to Settings, then Cellular
  • Select ‘Add a plan’. The Camera app will open.
  • Point your camera at the QR activation code until you see a message ‘Installing Cellular Plan’.

To activate on Android-

  • Go to Settings > Connections > SIM card manager
  • Tap Add mobile plan
  • Tap Add using QR code
  • Scan the QR activation code

Can I make phone calls or send SMS with my eSIM?

If you’ve taken an eSIM with Voice + Data plan, you can make & receive phone calls, send & receive text messages (SMS). You can also can make and receive calls, send and receive messages using data and OTT applications like Whatsapp, Telegram and more.

If you have opted for a Data Only plan, you can make and receive calls, send and receive messages using data and OTT applications like Whatsapp, Telegram and more.

Can I use an eSIM with my existing physical SIM?

Yes.  If your phone has a Dual SIM option with eSIM compatibility, you can use an eSIM with your existing physical SIM card.

How can I check my current data usage?

The ways to check data usage differ for different network providers. Please visit the product page for your eSIM to know more.

How can I top up my eSIM?

eSIM refills and validity extension can be done on the network operator’s website.

Can I use tethering (Personal Hotspot)?

Yes. Please check the information provided on the product page for more details.

How can I remove an eSIM from my device?

Your phone will have an option to ‘Delete eSIM’. Please note that deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed by scanning the QR code again.
